SAILA

The history of Saila began in 1937, when Angelo Barabaschi decided to turn the historic Kursaal theater in Silvi Marina (once used as a school building) into a factory for the transformation and purchase of liquorice, the "black gold" of our territory.

The name of the brand was chosen by the founders themselves and is the acronym of "Società Anonima Industria Liquirizia Abruzzese" (SAILA).

Since then, the secrets of the brand production have been handed down from generation to generation, so much so that even today Saila continues to be a precious heritage of Italian industrial history.

The brand has always had a strong relashionship with the town of Silvi, where its headquarters are still today.

Over the years, Saila has gained worldwide fame for its excellent production, especially the famous mint and liquorice candies.

The Italian spirit of Saila brand has always been characterized by the use of Italian raw materials, as well as a constant innovation that has skilfully maintained the essence of the brand long tradition.

In 2017 Saila celebrated its 80th anniversary with an exhibition: retracing the main stages of its history with a guided tour inside the Silvi Marina industrial factory, visitors had the opportunity to discover the manufacturing, production and packaging process of the liquorice and candies.

Today, Saila is still one of the leading producers of liquorice and candies in Italy, with a strong bond with its homeland and with constant attention paid to the quality standard of products and to technological innovation.

We thank the Barabaschi family and Annarita Di Loreto for their support.
