The Teramo coast and the Sette Sorelle
Starting from Silvi, the southernmost city on the Teramo coast, Pineto can be reached by following the SS16. This locality owes its name to the vast pine forest that runs along the sea and offers relaxation and refreshment to tourists. Among the characteristic places to visit in Pineto there is the Filiani Park, named after the Villa that rises inside it and which houses the Ethnomusicological Center of Abruzzo. A walk in the park allows you to admire splendid panoramas of the crystalline sea and to enjoy the beauties natural and historical features of the city.
The marvelous nature reserve of the “Torre del Cerrano” Marine Protected Area extends between the territories of Pineto and Silvi. The protected area takes its name from the ancient coastal watchtower erected in the 16th century to strengthen the defensive system of the time. The Tower of Cerrano represents one of the few remaining intact examples of the structures used to repel the attacks of the Turks and Saracens coming from the sea.
Continuing north along the SS16, you arrive at Roseto degli Abruzzi, also known as "Lido Delle Rose". Roseto stands out for its long golden beach and crystalline sea. For those who love nature, the Borsacchio Nature Reserve is a must, a beach surrounded by unspoiled nature, far from the noise of the city, where you can take a relaxing swim gently cradled by the waves. Also worth visiting is the medieval village of Montepagano, a hamlet of Roseto, where ancient monuments such as the Porta da Borea, the Castle of Montepagano and the church of the Santissima Annunziata are preserved.
Continuing north along the Adriatic state road, we arrive at Giulianova, characterized by soft, golden beaches and turquoise sea. In addition to the beautiful coastline, it is advisable to visit the oldest part of the city, namely Giulianova Alta. In the historic centre you can admire the beautiful Church of Santa Maria al Mare, the Sanctuary, the Belvedere and the Cathedral of San Flaviano, the symbol of the city with its marvelous dome.
Continuing along the Statale Adriatica towards the north, you arrive in Tortoreto, an Abruzzo municipality that offers an abundance of history, natural beauty and a splendid beach that has won the Blue Flag for 24 consecutive years. One of the main attractions of Tortoreto is the Fonti del Vascello naturalistic oasis, built around a small artificial lake that hosts a vast variety of species of flora and fauna. For lovers of history and panoramic views, a visit to Tortoreto Alta is a must: the medieval village constitutes the historic center of the city and it is possible to admire the characteristic Clock Tower, the Church of the Madonna della Misericordia dating back to 1348 and the Church of Sant'Agostino, one of the main examples of religious architecture in Tortoreto. Finally, after a walk through the alleys, you can take a break from the artistic tour and admire the panoramic view of the coast from the Belvedere terrace of Tortoreto.
A few kilometres further north is Alba Adriatica, a beautiful coastal town famous for its beach of very fine sand, also known as the "Silver Beach". Along the beach, the cycle path that runs along the promenade extends, the perfect place to relax with long walks by bike or on foot. Not to be missed are the beautiful noble villas such as Villa Chiarugi, known as "la Favorita" and built in the 17th century, Villa Gianluca Palma, built in a classic 19th-century style and surrounded by a large garden, or Villa Zanoni, built in the 20th century and in which are present a mixture of different styles that make this building unique.
Finally, we move to Martinsicuro, the northernmost "sister". Here, in addition to enjoying splendid walks along the seafront caressed by the breeze, it is possible to admire beautiful historical monuments such as the Torrione di Carlo V, which houses the Antiquarium of Castrum Truentium, a museum which houses the archaeological finds found during the excavations carried out in the Colle Marzio area. Among the most important and well-known finds we find a Longobard tomb found near the Tronto river in Martinsicuro.
