The Fountain of Silvi Paese

The Silvi Paese fountain by Giuseppe Vallescura is a 20th century structure located at the beginning of Corso Umberto I, the main alley in the historical centre of Silvi Paese. It is located next to the church of San Salvatore and is characterized by its semicircular basin, which is fed by three jets of water.

Each jet of water is placed inside its own round arched niche, equipped with a small basin. When the excess water flows from the semi-circular basin, it flows into a larger basin below. Above each arch is the symbol of Silvi, which enriches the aesthetic aspect of the fountain.

The Silvi Paese fountain was built inside a brick wall, which delimits a small raised square. This small square is surrounded by some small houses in the historic centre, and is therefore an important point of reference for the daily life of the inhabitants of the village.

In summary, the Silvi Paese fountain is an architectural work of historical and artistic significance, which testifies to the ability of the ancient craftsmen to create works of art using local materials such as brick. The fountain represents a place of aggregation and meeting for the local community, and testifies to the importance of water as a precious asset for human life.
