Church of San Pio e San Massimiliano
The Church of San Pio and San Massimiliano is located in the northern part of Silvi, in the area between the line railway and the beach. It was inaugurated in 2012 and consecrated on 15 July of the same year by the Bishop of Teramo and Atri, Mons. Michele Seccia. The church is dedicated to Saints Pio of Pietrelcina and Massimiliano Kolbe, the Conventual Franciscan friar who volunteered to take the place of a family man in the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.
The construction of the church started in 2006 and was completed in 2011. The building, which covers an area of approximately 300 m2, was built almost entirely in reinforced concrete and has a modern and simple architecture. Inside, the church consists of a single large and bright nave, with a roof with exposed wooden trusses, which gives the structure a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
The Church of San Pio and San Massimiliano has become an important point of reference for the community of Silvi and the neighbouring towns, thanks to its modern architecture and its strategic position in the tourist area of the city. The church is frequented not only by the local faithful, but also by tourists who visit the area during the summer.
