Chapel of Madonna dello Splendore
The Chapel of the Madonna dello Splendore di Silvi is located along the panoramic road that leads from the historic center to the coast and was built on the spot where, according to legend, San Leone met Turkish soldiers who were heading towards the village. The chapel was built around the 1930s to a design by the Marquis Giuseppe De Torres.
The building looks like an aedicule in squared stones in the middle of a clearing among the trees, surrounded by a stone fence. Inside the chapel there is a small statue of the Madonna dello Splendore. The facade of the chapel is characterized by a high portal with a flat architrave in the centre, on the top of which there is the golden inscription "Semper splendeat". On the left of the façade there is a fasces, while on the right there is a stoup set in the wall.
In 1992 the chapel was restored and the outdoor spaces were cleaned up to offer better access for devotees. Also, a few years later, the robe of the Madonna statue was changed from blue to white.
The Chapel of the Madonna dello Splendore therefore represents an important place of worship and devotion for the local community of Silvi and for the visitors who come to this locality.
