Borgo and Belvedere

Silvi Paese is defined as a borgo (hamlet), an enchanting place rich in history and culture, located on a hill overlooking the Adriatic coast, able to offer a breathtaking view on the sea and the surrounding hills. Its panoramic point called Belvedere, in particular, is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the area and offers a complete view that embraces the coast line as well as the mountain landscapes.

The historic centre is gathered around Corso Umberto I, the main street and starting point of daily activities, followed by a maze of roads and winding alleys, all surrounded by beautiful characteristic brick houses. From the panorama points you can admire the amazing nearby landscapes which, in addition to the sea and part of the Gran Sasso d'Italia mountain chain, include the characteristic Calanchi, defined as Badlands, typical geo-morphologic process of erosion that occur in area where the soil is rich in clay and under climate conditions of the Mediterranean.

The elevated position on the hill has naturally fortified Silvi Paese, the entire centre is supported by large reinforcing brick arches built after the 1933 earthquake. During the reconstruction works, smaller arches of medieval origins were discovered, evidence of the presence of more ancient settlements.

The Belvedere of Silvi Paese is located in the easternmost point of the village, where the circular road Southern meets the Via Circolare Boreale. Here, there is a lovely little square with several benches where you can sit to contemplate the view, called the "Loggia".

In order to wander with the view and admire all the panorama that this village can offer it is recommended to taking both circular routes, on the clearest days the view extends from Monte Conero to the Umbria-Marche Apennines, up to the Gargano promontory in Puglia.

The hamlet itself is a charming maze of narrow cobbled streets, archways and hidden courtyards.

In the village it is possible to taste the typical local products, such as wine, olive oil, cheeses, meat and fish in the numerous restaurants and trattorias that serve traditional Abruzzo dishes.

The hamlet of Silvi Paese and its belvedere offer a unique experience to tourists looking for history, culture, good food and breathtaking landscapes.
